Join us for the Mayo Dark Sky Festival Lantern Walk with Wilderland artist Tom Meskell and festival concert with Kíla.
Lantern Walk
Mayo Dark Sky Festival 2025 closes with a flourish this year! Festival goers will take part in a very special Lantern Walk from Newport Playground, over the 19th century viaduct, and up to the iconic 100 year old St. Patrick's Church, where the talented musicians of KILA will perform.
We'll be unveiling Tom’s sculpture for Mayo Dark Skies - The Night Hares - a large bespoke lantern sculpture of two boxing hares forming a 14ft tall archway, the gateway to the Dark Sky Festival lantern walk.
The Lantern Walk will include handmade large-scale lanterns created especially for the Festival by Tom and our communities with Mayo Art Squad and the Mayo Dark Skies team throughout the Summer. If you've been to one of our lantern-making workshops then join us for the walk and bring all the family.
We'll be gathering from 6pm at Newport Community Playground, where you can also see Tom's large lantern sculpture The Sleeping Giant, The Lantern Walk is an outside event so please dress for the weather!
The Lantern Walk is a FREE event, no booking necessary.

Kila Concert
Our Lantern Walk ends at St. Patrick's Church for the finale event - a special concert with Kíla. Kíla concerts are renowned for their high energy, vibrant fusion of Irish traditional music with global influences, and captivating stage presence. They seamlessly blend various musical styles, creating a dynamic and euphoric live experience. Audience members can expect a show filled with diverse instrumentation, including traditional Irish instruments like the uilleann pipes and bodhrán alongside a drum kit and other percussive elements.
The Kila concert is FREE for all festival ticket holders (so hold on to those tickets/wristbands!) or €20 for all others.
