Accessing the solar website:

Wilderland has two websites, one always-on, higher resolution website that is heavier to run, and one experimental, situated site, that is solar powered, and in the Nephin Park

The solar site might not always be on or available, it also has other quirks, and will be slower. Adjust your expectactions for this Permacomputing + Small Web alternative.

Summer Solstice - Flower Féilire Workshop

DATE: 22 Jun, 2025
TIME: 02:00 PM - 04:00 PM
all times are in Irish time unless noted otherwise

Join artists Clare Breen and Kasia Kaminska for a creative cyanotype workshop.

During this drop-in workshop artists Clare Breen and Kasia Kaminska will guide us through cyanotype sun-printing and we will work with pressed plants and wildflowers collected to create beautiful blue images on fabric. These fabric pieces will be included in a large-scale cyanotype* artwork and calendar of Mayo's indigenous plant life for the Flower Féilire project - a year-long plant gathering and collaborative cyanotype project led by Clare and Kasia as part of Wilderland.

It's an opportunity to meet and chat with fellow participants of the Flower Féilire project, join the project for the first time, or find out how you and your community can become involved in making the public artwork this summer.

We also invite everyone to bring a wild food dish to add to a potluck to share at the end of the workshop and to celebrate the Summer Solstice with seasonal food and refreshments. You can find some sample wild food recipes in the Flower Féilire recipes page.

New and returning participants welcome!

FREE entry,.
This is a drop-in workshop, no booking required.

This workshop is part of our Summer Solstice Gathering.
Wilderland is joining with Wild Nephin National Park and its local communities to host a summer solstice gathering at Letterkeen. There'll be traditional music, food and refreshments, drop-in creative workshops from some of our project artists, and guided walks into the park. Find out more on our Summer Solstice Gathering event page.

More about the Flower Féilire project.

Flower Féilire is a year-long plant gathering and collaborative cyanotype* project led by artists Clare Breen and Kasia Kaminska. Communities who live around Wild Nephin National Park are invited to learn about the native plant life in the park and its environs and work together to create a collaborative public artwork. Participants are encouraged to gather flowers and plants throughout the year during plant walks and to press them in community presses. This large cyanotype will take the form of a calendar, recording a year of indigenous plants in the region.

*Cyanotype, also called sun-printing, is one of the oldest photography techniques. An image is made when an object, for example a plant, is laid on a background painted with a photosensitive solution. This is then placed in the sunshine. The area covered by the plant stays white, as it is protected from the sun, while the other areas turn a rich, beautiful blue.
