Wilderland has two websites, one always-on, higher resolution website that is heavier to run, and one experimental, situated site, that is solar powered, and in the Nephin Park
The solar site might not always be on or available, it also has other quirks, and will be slower. Adjust your expectactions for this Permacomputing + Small Web alternative.
ROOTED is a multidisciplinary arts and science project which focuses on community engagement and educational workshops, culminating in a series of dance theatre public performances.
The project centres on themes of nature within urban, rural and wild environments in Ireland, examining the impact of community voices and creativity to explore ecosystems, climate change, and connection to nature.
ROOTED is sponsored by a Research Ireland Discover grant and will take place over three progressive stages of development from summer 2025 – spring 2026. Themes for the resultant live performance series will be drawn from summer workshops and community input; all summer workshop participants will also be given tickets to the spring 2026 performance series.
Throughout 2025, ROOTED will be holding community workshops led by Jessamyn Fairfield and Deidre Cavazzi. Workshop participants will take a short guided nature walk, focusing on sensory observations and noticing details in the landscape around them. This will be followed by a facilitated creative writing and drawing workshop inspired by the walk. Participants will have time at the end to optionally share their work and to reflect on the session, as well as to join the facilitators in a discussion about the role of nature in their everyday lives.
Jessamyn Fairfield is a lecturer in the School of Natural Sciences at the University of Galway, who leads research in art/science partnerships. She founded Bright Club Ireland, exploring research through standup comedy, and has also co-created improvised and dance theatre pieces to explore nanoscience, neuroscience, and climate action with communities around the world.
Deidre Cavazzi is a storyteller and choreographer based in California. She has an MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in Narrative Medicine from Dominican University, and an MFA in Dance from UC Irvine. She is the Honors Program Chair and a Professor of Dance at Saddleback College.
